Happy September! As we get closer to the winter months, it is easier on the skin to schedule the more involved treatments that require less sun exposure! So let’s dive into one of those now!
What is the Skin Pen?
For starters, the Skin Pen is the first and only class two micro-needling medical device in the market that is certified and approved by the FDA to treat adults’ facial acne scars .
What is the Skin Pen with PRP?
For the Skin Pen with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma), the treatment is further enhanced. First, Platelet-Rich Plasma is obtained by drawing a small amount of blood from your arm and extracting the plasma from the blood via a centrifuge (2). The benefits of the plasm is that it has a high concentration of platelets, stem cells and growth factors that help your tissue heal and grow new cells (2). The plasma combined with Microneedling with the pen supercharges the needling benefits in that it reduces under-eye puffiness and dark circles to give an appearance that is more youthful and well-rested (2).
Where on the body can the pen be applied?
The Skin Pen with PRP can be applied to the face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen, and back (2).
Who is a good candidate for it?
Really any adult-age person who wants better skin quality can do the Skin Pen with PRP (2). Some groups who would benefit most from it would be those who are good candidates for lasers, such as darker skin types, and those who want treatment for scarring (2).
How is the treatment performed and how long will it take?
First, there is a numbing gel that is applied to the skin (2). Then the pen will be prepared and adjusted to the setting best fit for your skin (2). The PRP solution is applied before and after the pen is used in order to ensure the PRP is fully absorbed (2). After the last round of PRP, other serums can be applied to help with any other specific skin conditions (2). The treatment will take approximately 60-90 minutes, with 30 minutes for the numbing process and 30 minutes for the needling (2). For one to three days there will be mild redness, but a treatment kit can help make the recovery period shorter (2).
When will I see results?
There will be an immediate “glow” and it will continue to get better over the next few weeks (2). Improvement can continue up to 6 months after the treatment as collagen production continues to improve skin quality (2).
Let’s move into Autumn with a glow!
