What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a chemical solution that is applied to your face to treat a host of facial concerns: wrinkles, acne, scarring, discoloration, and more (1). The process of receiving a chemical peel is very similar to how you get a facial: laying down while the solution is applied to your face and the esthetician takes care of you while you relax (1). It differs from a facial in that the experience is meant to help remove imperfections from your skin and this is accomplished by the different levels of peels available to treat your specific skin type and needs: deep, medium, and light (2). The different levels serve to accomplish different goals: light treats more surface-level skin concerns like acne and light wrinkles, medium helps clear-out the top and middle layers of skin to reach slightly deeper impurities, and the deep removes deeper scarring and wrinkle concerns (2).
